Game and Fish will close Lake Conway's dam gates Dec. 2 so the lake can refill

Lake Conway's refill starts Dec. 2 after a drawdown that began in 2023

  1. Early 2023Game and Fish begins draining the lake.
  2. Jan. 2025Game and Fish begins removing condemned structures.
  3. Dec. 2Game and Fish will close the dam gates so the lake can refill.

If you fish, boat or live on , circle Dec. 2. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will close the gates to the dam's auxiliary structure that day so the lake can begin refilling, it told roughly 170 people at a Monday meeting at Mayflower High School. Don't count on a quick fill: Nick Feltz of the commission said it will take substantial rain.

Feltz said the project is three years into a planned five, and that landowners still have time to remove condemned structures while the lake fills.

  • Lake size: 6,700 surface acres, created in 1948
  • Shiners stocked last week: about 200,000 golden shiners
  • Gamefish stocking: typically 6 to 8 months after forage
  • Boat-lane poles still needed: 50 to 60

Crews cleaned up the dry lake bed and condemned 175 structures

40 tons
of litter removed from the lake bed
30 tons
of discarded tires removed
175
structures condemned by the commission
Over 1,000
boat-lane marker poles installed

I just wanted to give a shout out to the 2 young men at Bank OZK that helped me this morning- Nick Whitson and Anthony West!

“I met them at the door of the Heights branch the minute they opened with lots of requests and much needed help in handling my mother’s account- it could have been an “oh gosh- what a way to start the day” moment. The Wrap

Arkansas has a lot of music history, and North Little Rock just gave it a new home. The ATG Pavilion, which includes the Mashburn Gallery of Americana Music, is built to hold 21 bronze sculptures by artist Kevin Kresse honoring Arkansas musicians. It's already got visitors itching to make a little music of their own. Encore.
